Federal debt officially passes $16 trillion mark as Democrats launch convention
It was the GOP which featured a rolling debt clock at its national convention, but it was just an hour before the Democrats dropped the gavel on their gathering Tuesday that the Treasury Department announced that the debt had topped the $16 trillion mark.
